Justin's Rating: What they DIDN'T show were the large vacuum tubes that would constantly be sucking off Natasha's wardrobe
Justin's Review: Species is widely known as "That movie where Natasha Henstridge french-kisses a guy through the back of his skull." Sure, it may also be aspiring to a cheap Alien ripoff, but the second you have a sexy, half-naked girl killing someone with her tongue, I think you've lost the right to make people take you seriously.
This is not a bad thing. Species is the height of scifi popcorn flicks. It's got enough aliens and mumbo jumbo tech talk for the nerds, big guns and macho guys for the actionphiles, and rampant nudity for Cinemax reruns. And let's not forget to mention idiotic plot twists that will have anyone over ten smack their foreheads and make sarcastic comments about.
S.E.T.I. receives instructions from an unknown alien civilization to construct some sort of new life form by tinkering around with DNA. Since NASA obviously grew up watching E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, they know that aliens are Our Friends, and blindly leap into condemning our race to extinction. Namely, in the form of a hot uber-babe named Sil, who escapes to breed! Mwua-ha-ha-ha-ha! We're so screwed! Realizing their blunder, they put together the traditional ragtag motley crew to take her out, and the hunt begins.
So the basic lesson of Species is, making out with girls is dirty and naughty and will get you killed. Species is brought to you by the Catholic Church, Inc.

Intermission!
During the production, MGM opted not to shoot the "nightmare train" sequence to keep costs down. H.R. Giger (the designer of the Sil and Alien creatures) was not willing to accept that, however, so he spent $100,000 of his own money to finance the sequence.
