Andie's Rating: We're gonna bowl tonight, we're gonna bowl to-ni-ght.
Andie's Review: Now, I know we haven't reviewed the original Grease yet, but that's because it's a pretty good run of the mill musical. Grease 2 however is a completely
different story. This movie is so horrible that you can't help but love it. I
mean, any movie that has Michelle Pfeiffer running around singing about a "Cool
Rider" and kissing Rex Manning from Empire Records has to be an awful guilty
pleasure.
This movie picks up at Rydell High in the early 60s. The only original Grease character around is Frenchy, whose cousin is coming to Rydell. His name is Michael, but he goes on to play Rex Manning, so that's what we'll call him. He's this totally preppy girlie boy who falls for the leader of the Pink Ladies, Stephanie (Michelle Pfeiffer). Johnny, her ex and leader of the T-Birds, doesn't like this too much and tries to make life hell for Rex. Rex gets a motorcycle, shows Johnny up, Johnny ends up with Paulette, Rex gets Stephanie, everybody's happy and all the while they sing a lot.
The singing means that we have to live through some truly horrendous songs, like "Cool Rider" and "A Girl for All Seasons" and"Bowl Tonight" and (my personal favorite) "Reproduction." Reproduction is so great cause it's a sex education song and because Paulette has this one awesome line where she really shows off her voice. Grease 2 is smary and cheesy and everything a movie musical should be. This would make a fantastic double feature with The Pirate Movie if you're a fan of horribly great musicals.
Didja Notice?
All sorts of people show up in this movie: Chris McDonald (Shooter McGavin from Happy Gilmore) and George from "Profiler" and Paulette is played by Lorna Luft
who is Judy Garland's daughter.
