Issue Twelve — 7.6.05

Frozen in Carbonite is Mutant Reviewers From Hell's weekly roundup of cult and geek news about movies, television, video games, comics, books and whatever the heck else we dig up.

"It is known that there is an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination." (From The Guide)

Stop With Those Hungry Eyes, Mister!
Lions Gate studios is looking to make a bit of moolah with TV spin-offs of both Dirty Dancing and The Punisher. Dirty Dancing was also a 1988 TV series and had a spin-off sequel a couple years ago.

'Twas A Wacky Civil War
Amazing Screw-On Head, an animated comedy based off of the comic of the same name, is heading to SciFi channel in 2006. Voiced by Paul Giamatti and David Hyde Pierce, the show will feature a robot who works for Abraham Lincoln, fighting off supernatural threats and those darned Confederate rebels.

Potteritis
Not surprisingly, Amazon.com is reporting that pre-orders for the sixth Harry Potter book has topped 1,000,000 worldwide. If you'r counting down to the July 16 release date of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, then tune in to the Jumbotron in Times Square, as it's doing a countdown for the event.

My Little Pony's Arch-Nemesis
Emily the Strange, a series of merchandise centered around a grumpy, black-and-white goth chicklet, will be made into a live/animated film by Fox Animation.

DVD Rocks The Shazbot
This is interesting — USA Today did a feature on how DVD sales and rentals of some movies, notably dramas, are eclipsing the box office receipts for the same films. Finding Neverland did $51.7 million in theater, but has netted $80 million in DVD sales/rentals to date. Amazing!

And John Leguizamo As The Donkey
The $60 million-budgeted Dungeon Seige is getting ready for cameras later this year, with a stellar cast including Jason Statham, Leelee Sobieski, John Rhys Davies, Ron Perlman, Matthew Lillard, Burt Reynolds, and Kristanna Loken. Based off of the popular Microsoft PC game with little-to-no plot, fans are seriously wondering if this is going to turn out like Dungeons & Dragaons.

Sequels, Prequels and Remakes

  • Method Man is working hard (yeah, right) on How High 2.
  • The Bourne Ultimatum, the third movie in this highly overrated series, is cranking up for production.
  • Freddy vs. Jason 2 LOOKS like it's been given the go-ahead, and has a writer on board.
  • Highlander : The Journey Continues (the fifth in the series) is being made, as Lion's Gate pictures has given it approval
  • Edward Furlong (best known as "Have you seen this kid" from T2) will be the new Crow in The Crow: Wicked Prayer. He'll be co-starring with Angel's David Boreanaz. Furlong says about the straight-to-video release, “I feel through word of mouth people will find it. There’s a huge base for Crow fans. Just from what I’ve seen on the Internet, people are really excited about it. Personally, I say it’s the best one since the first one”.
  • Fletch Won, a prequel and the third in the series, is picking up steam with star Zach Braff (Scrubs) and writer Kevin Smith.
  • The cast of Fantastic Four have signed on for a sequel.
  • Hulk 2 is still happening, for God knows what reason.
