The MRFH 2007 Revue

Getting old can be a kick in the crotch. But usually it's more of a blessing than you'd realize. Every year that flips past the dial adds a whole new selection of films to an already enormous worldwide library. Years give us experience and refined taste, clearer insight into who we are, and fun new things to complain about our bodies.

It also allowed us to say these words: "Welcome to the 10th Anniversary of the Mutant Reviewers From Hell!"

Back at the beginning of 2007, I talked about how incredulous I was that we even made it this far. MRFH was a little college side project that has somehow endured, grown and flourished under the culty gaze of our awesome staff. Today, as we plow into our 11th year of the site, I can't help but feel proud — not the pride of personal accomplishment and boasting rights, but the pride of a dad watching his kid grow into his own person. MRFH wouldn't be what it is without the staff cranking out content faithfully, the readers who give us reason to exist, and the movies that never fail to delight, horrify and weird us out.

It was a year of change — PoolMan stepped down from his long-held perch as a Mutant writer and Nancy resigned due to college craziness. MRFH owes them both a large debt of thanks for helping to inject a bit of awesomeness into the place. Stepping up to the Mutant plate were rookies Mike and Al, both of whom have corraled cult flicks into the pen with a deft hand. Eunice graciously agreed to come on board as our very first Mutant Cub Reporter, handling the daily entries of the Mutant News Annex (send her your news tips, people!). The front page got a bit of a facelift, we added the Cult TV section, Kyle created a MRFH MySpace page, and we topped 1200 movies covered and 1900 reviews.

MRFH carried on several traditions in 2007, including HalloHorrorWeen, Haunted House IV, Rocky Week, Whedon Week, Stephen King Week, and, of course, our 10th Annual Mutant Awards.

Most years it's quite vogue to whine that the year as a whole -- and summer in specific -- severely lacked quality titles and several anticipated movies simply failed. Strangely enough, 2007 bucked that trend and gave us plenty to cheer about -- even during the summer. There were decent sequels, spectacular indies, and even a great western thrown into the mix. And what year would it be without Uwe Boll releasing some crapfest of a video game adaptation upon us? I'm not complaining, that's for sure... but I certainly have a ton of films to catch up on!

That said, it's time for the unauthorized, but always personally satisfying
