5.5.08: Our very own Sue won two major awards from the Wisconsin Regional Writers' Association. "Sue Wentz achieved an incredible feat. At the just-completed Spring Conference, Sue was awarded First Prize in BOTH the Lindemann (Humorous Essay) and Nelson (Feature Article) Contests — a feat never before achieved in WRWA. Since Sue won the Jade Ring last fall, she is now the only person in WRWA’s 60 years to have won a first in all three of our contests."

2.15.07: First of all, I'd like you all to clap enthusiastically for Sue, who was nominated and agreed to rise to the position of mutant leader, alongside of Justin and Kyle. Sue's shown a lot of initiative at MRFH, and we felt that she'd be perfect to help guide the site into our glorious future.

Second of all is that we brought on a new writer to the staff. I'd like you all to welcome Al to the MRFH family!

Al's been a longtime forum regular, and his application during the last round of hirings (the ones that picked up Shalen and Nancy) was very impressive. So much so that we'd wished that we could've hired three at the time instead of two! Pooly and the current leadership team agreed that he'd be an excellent addition to our team, and we look forward to his future contributions.

NaNoWriMo stands for "National Novel Writing Month", which takes place each November when thousands of writers attempt to pen a 50,000+ word novel in a 30 day deadline. Interested? Join the MRFH team in November, 2007!

10.13.06: MRFH was chosen for some weird Japanese site's Daily Pick. Among other things, this page claimed MRFH was "The sight which publishes the review of the movie of the enormous quantity". Also, "Furthermore everyone, valuable in order not to make the gold and time wasteful, before going to the rental shop, please try checking this sight."

Also, we have a number of grab bag updates today! MRFH crossed the 600,000 unique visitors mile marker (woohoo!). Check out the newly-updated What Is This? page. "Uscgelfredhead" adds more to the brown M&M Van Halen story on the Wayne's World 2 review page. Will C. adds some trivia to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. James G. solves a Ringu mystery for us. 7.3.05: Sunday Update Grab Bag! 21 new quotes added to the front page random quote generator, bringing up the total to 962 quotes. Review page upgrades given to The Goonies, Billy Madison, Bio-Dome, Black Belt Jones, Black Sheep, Blade II and Blade Runner. Patrick F. sent in some trivia for Chicken Run and Back to the Future part II. Updated the Readers Comments page. Heidi sent in a minor correction to the How I Got Into College page. Scarletdown had an observation for Master and Commander. Alex O. and Erik sent in a few trivia tidbits for Revenge of the Sith. And that wraps that up!

5.8.05: Sunday Update Grab Bag! Added April and May's title banners to the Title Banners archive. 22 new quotes added to the random quote generator, bringing up the total to 919 quotes. For Him Magazine Australia online recently listed MRFH as one of their 10 Cool Websites for the month — you can check out what they had to say on our Comments page. Added a new category for the Findaflik page: The Best of the Pre-80's. Updated the Mutant Bios page to reflect Clare's leaving and Justin's marriage. Justin B added a bit of trivia to the Ferris Bueller's Day Off review page. Upgraded The Big Hit review page.

4.22.05: MRFH is going on a break until May 1, because Justin is getting married April 23! Yes, another mutant falls prey to the marital syndrome, and wackiness will ensue. In the meanwhile, catch on up with old reviews or jaw a spell on the Forums.

4.2.05: Saturday Update Grab Bag! Added the April Fool's Day 2005 link to the Features page. At the start of each month, we add all of our new review link titles for the previous month to IMDb.com. April's title banner uploaded to the front page (this month's pre-80's banner is courtesy of Star Wars). Added 29 quotes to the random quote generator, bringing the quote total up to 897. Shalen H. pointed out a Spanish language error on the Star Trek: First contact page. Reid B. submitted some Spaceballs trivia. Made a minor update to the Links page.

3.20.05: Sunday Grab Bag of Mini-Updates! You can revisit the entire James Bond Week on our Theme Weeks Page. Added February and March's title banners to the Title Banners Archive. Added a couple Readers Comments. Kevin R sent us a bit of trivia for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly review page. Ashley clues us in to some Ocean's 12 trivia, as does the mysteriously-named Daldridge. Liz solves the mystery of the kid's name in Bad Santa. Error corrections sent in for The Book of Mutant Baby Names, A Christmas Story, Love Actually and 40 Days and 40 Nights.

3.3.05: Thursday Grab Bag of Mini-Updates! Upgraded four review pages: Bend It Like Beckham, Being John Malkovich, G.I. Joe: The Movie and Ginger Snaps. 15 new quotes added to the random quote generator, bringing the total up to 868.

2.24.05: On the heels of our 800th movie reviewed, MRFH's unique-visitor-per-day counter topped 500,000! While a half-mil might not be any major news compared to many hit sites, it's a victory for us, especially considering that in the first three years of MRFH, we only had 13,000 visitors total. Thanks to all the faithful and new readers that made this possible.

2.15.05: In Good Company becomes MRFH's 800th movie reviewed on the site!

2.6.05: Sunday Grab Bag of Mini-Updates! Kyle as Dr. Who posted on the Bios page. Added 19 quotes to the front page random generator, bringing up the total to 853 quotes. Upgraded the following review pages: Battlefield Earth, Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Beetlejuice.

1.14.05: Friday Grab Bag of Mini-Updates! Kyle's sporting a nifty new look on the bios page. Added 5 new Justin pictures: uno, dos, tres, quatro, cinco. Gave the Beautiful Girls and Battle Royale review pages upgrades. Added 10 new quotes to the front page random quote generator.

1.03.05: Today, MRFH is Cool Site of the Day's pick! Head on over there and vote for us, for some reason! Minor Updates as follows: Added the Police Academy theme week to our MRFH Theme Weeks page. Added a few gracious e-mails to the Readers' Comments page. Robert H sent us some trivia for RoboCop, and Bingo M corrected a bunch of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back quotes.

12.31.04: Sometimes, when a huge tragedy or disaster strikes and thousands of lives are ended or affected, it's almost impossible to get your head around it. The temptation to duck your head back down and say "It's not my problem" is large. But realize that if you can help and touch just one life, you have made a difference of infinite value. Help the Red Cross send aid and relief to the victims of the tsunami disaster this past December 26th, if you can. Even a couple bucks can really help!

12.17.04: Friday Grab Bag of Mini-Updates! Russ, a PCU movie extra, wrote in about his experiences with the movie shoot. Bill R. provides us with a police explanation on roadblocks for Bad Santa. Justin added two new pictures to the Bios page: here and here. Upgraded the Battle Royale review page. Added 20 quotes to the random quote generator on the front page.

11.20.04: Saturday Grab Bag of Mini-Updates! Four new review page upgrades — Batman the Movie, Batman, Batman Returns and Batman Forever. Clare, Justin and Lissa added some pictures and details to their Mutant Bios. Gussed up the What Is This? page. Added captions for Sue's Disney article.

11.12.04: Friday Grab Bag of Mini-Updates! 29 new quotes added to the front page random quote generator, bringing the total up to 802 quotes. We've added one of those nifty little icon bookmarks (the classic MRFH "M") to show up when you bookmark the site. Robert H. sent us in some cool Star Trek 2 trivia, Pat F. notified us of a Dumb & Dumber tidbit, and Jeff added his son's name (Korben) to our Mutant Baby Names roster.

11.11.04: Mutant Reviewers mentioned in USAToday! In an article titled "'Chucky' spawns another sequel", our Head Mutant Justin is quoted as follows:

    "The idea of an evil doll come to life is a fun, freaky concept," says longtime fan Justin Olivetti, 28, a youth pastor in Livonia, Mich., who runs the horror film fan site www.mutantreviewers.com. "I'll definitely see Seed of Chucky." (Read the whole article here)

10.14.04: PoolMan unveils both Sue and Drew's personal banners (which you can see on the Mutant Bios page. Pooly's notes on the project:

These were fun to do, both of them. Drew's tag is a take on the Quick Stop sign from Clerks, which the astute observer may notice on their own. The astute observer might also notice that the original sign (despite being in black and white) was actually a hideous mustard yellow, but apparently Drew doesn't go for yellow. Sky blue soothed his little tummy nicely.

Sue's was due solely to the fact that when we hired her, she gave us full license to have a little fun with her ample age. So I figured a nice old silent movie motif would suit our new resident den mother perfectly. It's worth noting, however, that she is decidely NOT a silent person around the office. Little less coffee in morning there, dear, m'kay?

I am quite glad that neither Sue nor Drew went too nuts sending me back to the drawing board too many times. For the record, however, the easiest person to please in terms of tag approval is Lissa; the tag with her and the chemical beakers is exactly how I originally drew it. Some people are just easier to please than others (*cough*Clare*cough*).

10.10.04: Findaflik section is given a large upgrade — now search for the movie you're in the mood for in 26 categories!

10.07.04: FRONT PAGE OVERHAUL! Yes, we've done it again! After about two years with the old front-page design, we've gone ahead with a different, "cleaner" look -- one that is not only more functional, but also easier to use. Why did we do this? Well, one of the reasons we upgraded to the old design in the first place was to eliminate clutter from the front page, something which was creeping back in as we tried to cram as much fun stuff on there for visitors to see. Another reason was to make the site look more attractive to visitors, new and old. After you take a few deep breaths, choking down your rage at yet another change in your life, you should realize that we've taken away none of the front page features you've come to love. The daily calendar is still there, all news will be printed on the front page and then archived here, the Mutant Archive is capable of holding even more back-logged items than ever, and we've even color-coded update boxes to correspond with reviews (dark green), features (dark red), the Annual Mutant Awards (dark gold), news and archive (dark purple), and the weekly poll (dark blue). Another important thing to note is that this front page update will NOT impact any of the other pages on the site -- your review pages and articles will continue on as normal.
