I’m not sure whether AMC is the channel I watched Pale Rider on or not. The channel in question was doing a run of movies featuring Hollywood heroes. The last fifteen minutes wasn’t bad at all, as there wasn’t much dialogue, just Clint Eastwood taking down six guys in a stretch of pure awesome. My nephew and I found Megan’s last line to be pretty silly and distracting, but otherwise ’twas a good ending. I, too, heard that Unforgiven was a good movie. I’ll definitely be checking that one out.

And Gordon,it wasn’t nearly so innocent as just a crush, which wouldn’t have raised an eyebrow with me. I just have an issue with the inherent creepiness needed to prompt a man to write a scene for himself where a fourteen year old girl tries to get him to bed her. Oh and since you like the movie so much (and probably have watched it more than I) maybe you can explain the purpose behind the scene where Megan rides into LaHood’s camp full of men for seemingly no reason other than to nearly be raped. My nephew and I just could not figure that one out, but it’s possible that we missed something.

Even the most acclaimed films will have their detractors. For example, I think Treasure of the Sierra Madre is one of the most ghastly turds ever to be labeled a classic, with Bogart being so hammy as to frighten away Jews and Muslims.

Through some merciful fluke of probability, I’ve never seen Pale Rider all the way through, but have caught the last fifteen minutes or so approximately eight-thousand times (thanks AMC!). I was actually pretty impressed, and assumed the rest of the movie was comparable. Perhaps not.

I will second Holden, whom I know is about to post on account of my magical powers, and recommend that you check out Unforgiven. It is quite good, although it does take its sweet time getting underway (really though, what western doesn’t?).

if you want a good Clint Eastwood movie, try Unforgiven. i’ve never seen Pale Rider, but i’ve heard its pretty good, ill have to watch it now to see if what you say is all true.
