General News:
“Anime and manga distributor Central Park Media (CPM) filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and has closed its doors as of Monday. According to Crain’s, the company owes US$1.2 million to creditors. The company has not been active in releasing new titles in the past 12 months.”
Alpha and Omega has been moved to October 1, 2010 (from April 16, 2010).

Last August, I took my dad and his friend to Indianapolis’ ComiCon, not realizing beforehand that neither of them had ever been to a geek convention. An insurance salespeople convention, perhaps, but that’s not quite the same.
Thus I failed my duties as a lifetime card-carrying geek to prepare them for the sheer nerdery that they were about to dive into. But it was pretty fun to watch them get whiplash from all of the double-takes.
Geek conventions are sort of like Halloween for grown-ups, if instead of giving out candy they made you buy really expensive crap that you don’t really need. Not everyone dresses up, but there’s enough folks that do and make such an effort that it boggles the mind when you see sixteen identical Bikini Princess Leias coming down the aisle at you.

General News:
Twentieth Century Fox is set to shut down comedy and genre films production label Fox Atomic. Head Debbie Liebling will return to 20th Century Fox as an executive, continuing to develop comedy and genre films. Atomic movies coming out later this year are Chris Columbus’ comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper (July 10), and Karyn Kusama’s horror Jennifer’s Body (September 18). Other titles that “presumably will move over to 20th” include 28 Days Later sequel 28 Months Later, and potential Sacha Baron Cohen vehicle Accidentes. Read the rest of this entry »
